The First Eucharist of Pentecost
The Bishop of Chichester, the Rt Revd Dr Martin Warner, presides and preached; one of his last duties before he retires at the end of May.
After the service, drinks were served in the Law Room and outside, in the glorious sunshine. Those staying were able to hear and see a Quarter Peal rung of Harting’s Bells (see below). Five visiting Tower Captains joined our own, Chris Rose, and range out for around 45 minutes.
What is a Quarter Peal?
A quarter peal on 6 bells is a continuous, non-stop performance of change ringing lasting approximately 45–50 minutes, featuring roughly 1,260 to 1,320 changes. It is a set-length performance commonly used to celebrate special occasions, mark church services, or mark milestones for ringers.
There is a short clip included on this page (view full screen). You can view a Video of most of the last Quarter Peal rung at Harting in memory of Roger Williamson on Youtube here. (skip advert)
There is also a dedicated Bells page on our website here
We do hope that you were able to see/hear it
