Sharing the love of God
The aims of the Society are to provide a social forum for the Harting community and to encourage an appreciation of the local environment, its heritage and its history.
There is an annual programme of talks covering a wide range of interests during the months of October to April, and occasional outings to places of interest during the summer months.
All meetings are held in the Village Hall, South Harting at 7.30 pm and the bar is open from 7.00. The annual subscription for members is £8, or £12 for joint membership. Visitors are most welcome and invited to contribute £3 per head.

Thursday 7th December - ‘Rucsacs to a Rolls
Royce’ Crossing
India to Bangladesh in a vintage Rolls
and other travel adventures, with Rupert Grey followed
by the Christmas Party
Rupert Grey grew up in South Harting and still lives there with his family. He has led an adventurous life from an early age, as lumberjack, prospector, explorer, juggie, soldier, actor, libel lawyer, photographer and writer. His talk will embrace fear and optimism on the hippie trail in 1970, starvation in the Takazze Gorge in 1973, an international incident on the Strickland River in 1979, a boat journey in the Sundarbans with his family, a Pirate King and a human rights activist in Bangladesh in 1992 and what happened next.
Rupert and his wife Jan are well known for motoring across India to Bangladesh in a vintage Rolls in 2012 – now a popular Netflix film. He will explain how the film came about, how it happened that the ultimate symbol of wealth became, in one of the poorest countries of the world, a mascot for human rights, and why a camera can be more effective than bullets.
Future Meetings
Thursday 1st February 2024 ‘From Hell, with Love’ The Diary of a prisoner of war held by the Japanese in World War
II, presented by Nigel Johnson-Hill.
